My Kind Of Mystery 2015!

My Kind Of Mystery 2015

Our pioneering year concludes February 28th, with a good crowd that has made me happy.  Every review has contributed to a database in my menu atop this blog.  No effort is wasted and I am excited to look ahead.  I hereby renew “My Kind Of Mystery” in 2015!  See my whole trio.

What sets us apart is any literature related to mystery ~ not solely novels.  If you enjoy true cases, are a student of investigative techniques, if there were an ‘open a detective agency for dummies’, or you like writing tips and biographies of authors:  all of these angles are included.  No matter when you join, count what you’ve read since February 1st.

Age, publication year, format, length:  there are no rules.  Combine your material with my other groups, like “Ethereal“!  :)  There are three other mystery hostesses, to whom I wholeheartedly nod.  We each bring our flair and they supported my fledgling year.  Here’s to a fun 2015!

~ INTERNATIONAL PRIZES! ~

I love plotting creative ways to award prizes!  Winners our inaugural year enjoyed eclectic goodies:  secondhand paperbacks, Canadian postcards, even plant seeds.  Fun options for everyone internationally.  Your choice each time.  RIEDEL Fascination festivities run every couple of months.

Please either subscribe to this blog, or ask for an e-mail when there’s an activity:  AlyshaeB(at)hotmail(dot)com.  Festivities are voluntary but can only take place if people play.  Rather than struggle to drop off information (via dial-up!);  everyone will know what’s afoot.  Don’t hesitate to guess.  If everyone were stumped by a riddle, I would draw a prize among all who tried!

~ SIGNING-UP ~

Bloggers:  share why you’re keen on my group, show this link and logo, and name the level you have in mind.  No matter, if you don’t finish.  I have designed prize points that put everyone in our grande finale, for joining and linking a review!  Please do a post / page with no more than 3 other groups on it.  It mustn’t be too media-heavy for slow speed internet and you will give our circle visibility that I appreciate tremendously.

I will set up a review page after Christmas.  One or two sentences to clarify your star-rating are ample, at Amazon, Goodreads, Book Depository…  Without a blog, fill in the sign-up button with any publically-viewable website (not ‘facebook’) that lets you write and make lists.  Altnernatively, use the URL to your Goodreads profile, then share your progress via comments on any of our pages.  The review buttons are our focus the remainder of the year.

Join me from February 1, 2015 to February 1, 2016!

~ GRAND FINALE PRIZE TABULATION ~

1 name in a bowl ~ You joined via linky button & linked 1 review.
1 name in a bowl ~ You finished your original commitment level.
1 name in a bowl ~ For each level risen higher than you planned.

~ NEW THIS YEAR ~

If there are riddles running in your head;  drop me a line!  It would be fun to let others run clues.  I think of my participants as guests in my parlour for a year.  You have a say in our entertainment.

We’re neatly trimming to:  February 1, 2015 to February 1, 2016.  Present members may use excess titles and we’ll even out.  May our Christmases and the year 2015 be wonderful!  Warmly, Carolyn.

I’m back! Ready and raring to go for February 2015.

  2. Sounds fun, I have already signed up for a couple of mystery challenges so I guess one more won’t hurt as long as I can combine challenges. :)

    • Hi! You bet: flexible, easy, approachable is the name of my 3 games, Stormi! :) I do prizes and riddles too; I’ll never put up a linky and leave my guests in the dust the remainder of the year. I’m excited someone new has heard about me!

  3. Hi, there! Thanks for visiting my blog! I think I am going to sign up for your challenge as I am really into mysteries these days. I love Aunt Dimity and Agatha Raisin so I will have plenty to add. Come visit my blog anytime!

  4. Oh, I forgot, I am entering at the Secret Message level.

    • I can’t wait to see your post and am grateful for the publicity it will bring. So much of the material I see people reading for other groups fit mine. They merely need to be known! Having you in my fold (don’t forget those ghostly themes) will be lovely.

Hi again Carolyn …. will have all my books in place by Feb 01 so can start with a bang!

    • Put your Goodreads profile URL in the linky button as usual. Then go ahead and share your plans, or progress, among the comments of any challenge pages. Your enthusiasm is wonderful, you engaged lady – you! xoxoxoxo

  6. yvonne473 says:

I’m in! Looking forward to it.

  7. Kari says:

I’m attempting again! Thank you for hosting!

    • I’m pleased to have my first guests rejoin me. There is one more riddle left for year 1. Watch for a post later today. I hope everyone finds their way to the final prize draw. I’ll also post about that.

  8. Sandra says:

This is the right kind of challenge for me. I am looking forward to a year of reading one of my favorite genres. My sign-up post: http://thatistheday.com/my-kind-of-mystery-challenge/

    • Sehr gut, Sandra! Don’t forget to put your URL into the sign-up button. Or I’m happy to do it. The buttons look weird lately and are hard to see. A great part of my very blended heritage is German (only *you* would know how to pronounce RIEDEL!) Having your special flavour will be fun.

  9. Hi there! I have been having trouble signing in so I did a Trial Post first. That worked.
    Okay!
Laurie Here – Cont Fiction and MORE – Book Reviews
    Unearthed 11-20 books!
You can find my Challenge on my 2015 Reading Challenges page.
I did do a post stating my intentions, but I’m having GREAT difficulty posting it here. It doesn’t like me trying to add my link HERE for some reason??? I posted it today, Jan 14th at lauriehere dot com – how’s that for avoiding the LINK problem? LOL!!!
Look in my Blog Archives for this date and you’ll see my Post!
    Thanks!
    Laurie

    • Are you joining us for 2015? No need for a comment; that goes into the linky button on this page. I’ll try leaving a message at your site too, should you not be following this. I’m glad you’ll be returning and don’t forget to tell me how your Feb 2014 to Feb 2015 achievement has been going!

  10. geraniumcat says:

I’d love to join tis challenge too – I need no encouragement when it comes to reading mysteries, and I think it will combine with the Gentle Spectrums challenge nicely. I will put up a blog post about both.

    • I’m excited and thank you for joining me for 2 out of 3! When you have posts, I will change your general blog URL in the buttons. I replied to your Gentle Spectrums comment and happily reiterate: wherever you review, just drop those links off at our review pages during the year. No wrap-up post is required. Drop by to say hello occasionally, weigh in on activities that appeal to you, and at the end of our February year tally your points for the final draw. No hoops to jump through around here.

  11. Dagny says:

I’m going for Invisible Floor. Wish me luck!
My post is at http://wp.me/pZnGI-ip but since I don’t really do reviews as such, my comments after finishing the book will be at Goodreads.

    • I’m glad to have you in my mystery theme! You filled in the button, so you’re set to go. This year, I am letting reviews slide for those not into them but who wish to be a part of my special angle. It’s about returning to share *something*. If you comment a list of titles from time to time and say how many you’re at; or leave your updated link while commenting your thoughts at that time, it works for me. Sound good?

      • Dagny says:

Thanks, Carolyn, sounds good. I didn’t feel most of my comments would really be long enough to warrant going on the Review page, so didn’t know how to work it.

  12. Dagny says:

    1. Death of a Policeman (Hamish Macbeth #30) by M. C. Beaton
    My comment: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1102880732

    • Hi Dagny! I’d better clarify: if you want folks to see your URL, do input it at the review page. You give an ample description; much more informative than a star rating. If you just want to report titles; by all means list titles only in the comment box of the review page. However it seems you would like folks to see your URL and and we have buttons for that, where they will look. :-)

The review page can be accessed from the menu at the top of the blog (and is linked to this page). I’ll delete this entry when I see it in the linky button, so we don’t confuse anyone. I worked hard to get those buttons up good and early. LOL.

      • Dagny says:

I don’t think I have it right yet, Carolyn. I could find a linky button anywhere on the Review page. Sorry for all the trouble, help.

      • It’s a pleasure to receive questions from my guests! I love your review by the way. If you didn’t see my description on that page, linky buttons are darn-near invisible; trouble everyone on WordPress has. I’ve learned a trick to rectify that, which I’d better implement today. In the meantime, click under the alphabet letters you want. You’ll find it works.

  13. jamie says:

Hi, I’m doing this one too. Doing Secret Messages.

  14. Kim says:

I love this challenge. I am in at the 41-82 level. thanks for doing this challenge.

  15. I don’t think I ever actually signed up for this challenge even though I just reviewed my first book for it. lol My blog is http://booksareportablemagic.blogspot.com/ and I am new to the mystery genre so will do the first level Secret Messages.

    • Hi Julie! Let me know if you get around to a distinct post for me. ;) You *did* sign-up via your “2015 challenge page”, or I added it on your behalf when I spotted it. I’m sure you’ll see the review page no problem and hope you enjoy the alphabetized format. All you need to let me know is if you’re subscribing, or if you prefer an e-mail, to catch special events. There will be a greeting, info post this week!

  16. Bev Hankins says:

Just met the minimum for the Invisible Floor level (so technically complete)–but still reading! More reviews coming for the rest of the challenge.

    • Yes, stay aboard and be tuned in for word of special events. I’ll begin to roll them out and see who stirs in summer weather. :) Job well done! Know that i have much tallying to do for your groups as well. I’ve been reading and am finishing with the Canadian June 30. Thereafter, I focus largely on my themes with you. *Hug!*

  17. Yvonne says:

I’m happy to say I signed up for the Unearthing Clues level and I finished it with 20 books. This was fun.

    • Well done, Yvonne! Stay tuned for more activities – an easier riddle and one involving cameras. :) Most importantly, keep on adding books. The year end draw has a point system that makes it worthwhile seeing how far we rise past our initial levels. I’ll be sure to visit your page to browse these early 20!

  18. Bev Hankins says:

I’ve managed 124 mysteries since last Feb 1! I’m going to see if I can manage to squeeze in at least one more before this round ends….

    • Considering you & I are broad-readers who reach outside mystery and accommodate the themes of numerous groups; this is very well done! I am pleased with my 75 mysteries for the same reason. I cover a lot of Canadian literature, non-fiction, fantasy, children’s gems, and beyond. A very good reading year!
