Off my shelf in many ways.

I’ve had a nice experience with ‘reading challenges’ and took to them like a duck to water.  This is a themed activity hosted on a blog.  Browse my plethora on this site.  Their objectives:  (1)  lapping up books you own (Ding ding!  Carolyn has a library BUILDING on her property!  Of un-read material)!  (2)  Pigeonholed readers are encouraged by tighter rules, to branch out.

I cherish the versatility of my library.  I wish y’all could come over and see it!  A push to absorb more subjects, or whittle piles down faster is great.  I need themes that reflect what I like to read and am grateful for a place to record all the time spent!  It will be a great thrill when my posts or reviews elicit an invigorating conversation;  or someone says:  “Your review lead me a book and I loved it”.

The two broadest themes are “new author challenge“, which seek reviews of any authors you tried for the first time;  then those generated to dwindle your shelves.  They merely require omission of titles purchased in the present year.  These are popularly referred to as “TBR” which means “to be read“.  I love Bonnie’s title in Australia and extra points she gives for authors born in diverse countries:  “off the self“.  I am combining to join the contests below.

Off The Shelf 2013

Tempted–   5 books
Trying –     15 books
Making A Dent –  30 books
On A Roll –   50 books

Hoarder –  76 – 135 books
Buried –   136-200 books

I committed previously to ‘making a dent’, cleaned that clock, and reached ‘on a roll’.  I even represented authors born in 8 countries.  This time I’m going to dare to pledge ‘on a roll‘ outright!  I’d be thrilled if you subscribed to my blog, to check out the titles I come up with and enjoy the variety of articles I write here too.

Mount TBR 2013

Mount Blanc:  24 books
Mount Vancouver:  36 books
Mount Ararat:  48 books
Mount Kilimanjaro:  60 books
El Toro:  75 books
Mount Everest:  100 books
Mount Olympus (Mars):  150+ books

Thirty-six is a good number and Vancouver is Canadian.  However if I can commit to 50 in others, let’s make it ‘Mount Ararat‘ here!  I’m on board the ‘vintage mystery’ Bev hostesses, referred to in one of my posts as a ball buster!  But it has so many details, perhaps I’ll compose it a separate page.

New Authors 2013

The choices are 15, 25, or 50 new authors;  not to say a writer’s début but your first taste of them.  I chose 25 and blew through that to 33!  I wouldn’t hesitate if there were a 40 spot but this is a sum of separate writers;  not a quantity of books.  Hmmm.  You know what?  I’ll be bold!  If I could do as well as I did on 16 challenges when I started more than halfway through the year, imagine what I could do;  commencing with everyone else in January.  I’ll pledge 50!
