Challenged To Finish Sequels.

I spent summers on Lake Winnipeg, floating around then visiting the beach store.  In a box on the floor were novels, 25c or less!  I grabbed every eerie mansion, without a care for the synopsis.  If a character rooted around hallways discovering secrets;  that was enough.  The best have ghosts.  Most were gothic mysteries;  emphatically popular from the 1940s – 1980s, although around much earlier and later.  Until the 1980s, novels were standalone stories and the imaginations of those writers must be credited.

In the late 80s I discovered V.C. Andrews, modern gothic horror I can’t believe I read so young.  Other than the disturbing “My Sweet Audrina“, Miss Andrews is famous for series.  She didn’t invent that wheel but can be thanked for refueling it.  There were few outside Laura Ingalls, Trixie Belden, Bobbsy Twins, Nancy Drew.  I like series for a fill of a character to whom we’re attached;  seeing what they do next.  Nowadays one-off stories are the minority and I’ve discovered a zillion new writers with on-going casts.

It’s my pleasure to jump aboard a lovely challenge by ‘Misty’ in England:  24 titles by New Year’s eve.  Any kind, any sequel, except volume 1 débuts.  Reviewing isn’t required but I like to keep up my writing.  Keep an eye on my 3 review menus at the top of this blog:  “Great Fiction“, “Educational“, “Underwhelming“.
